To the family, friends and fans of Mícheál
Ó Domhnaill
Mícheál's sudden death in July of
2006 prompted me to finally gather together performance photographs that I
had made of him during the early years of his stay in the United States.
During the period of 1981 to 1986, we
in the Philadelphia region were lucky to have enjoyed many local
appearances by Mícheál - with former Bothy Band-mate Kevin Burke; in
duets with his sister Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill; and with Tríona and Johnny
& Phil Cunningham in the sibling-blending group Relativity. These were
at venues throughout the area including the Cherry Tree Music Co-op,
Penn's Landing, The Philadelphia Ceili Group Festivals, Godfrey Daniels in
Bethlehem, PA and the Abraham Lincoln Hotel in Reading, PA. Those of us
who experienced those magical times know how lucky we were.
Charlotte and I dedicate this
collection to Mícheál, one of the nicest and the most gentle of men
we've ever known. Rest in Peace.

Gizella Primira, Penn's Landing, Philadelphia 1982.
The 'Gizella Primira' was a Portuguese sailing ship, which was
docked at Penn's Landing on the Delaware river. It was used as a
floating stage for this and many concerts over the years. In fact,
the Bothy Band played there when they made their one and only
visit to Philadelphia in 1976
